Multiracial Affinity Group:

I’m a leader of the Multiracial Affinity Group along with 2 other students. We're a school group. We create slides for the TV screens around the school, make presentations at school assemblies, and hang posters promoting the value of membership.

The real work is exposing a (mostly) homogenous group of young people to the meaning of our multiracial identification. Awareness is the first step, and also - to a certain degree - the most delicate step, because it's the moment when someone decides to turn away or towards difference.

We hold fundraisers for organizations supporting multiracial youth, with a focus on multiracial youth in the foster care system in the US.

Student Cross-Cultural Alliance:

3 other students and I created the SCCA to build connections between students with different identities. We started the group mid October of 2023, when there was tension between groups in our community.

We work closely with the school administration to set up events, big and small. We have bi-weekly meetings with the director of the school, the DEIJ director, Affinity Group coordinator, and other members of the administration.

We came together to preach that we if we can cross-communicate, we can find connections with each other, and help build a stronger community.

We split our team from all different groups and backgrounds into different sections to watch films about cultural identities, create art, and have discussions across the school’s many affinity groups.
